Our Instructors and Friends

Our instructors are some of the best in the business, they are seasoned professionals who bring a wealth of practical knowledge from industry experience to the classroom.

Teaching is not their full time gig as most are also consultants, but our instructors all enjoy the opportunity to spend some time in the classroom to mentor and help people with their professional development. Here is a sampling of some of our instructors.

Terumi Laskowsky

Zubair

Terumi Laskowsky is an internationally recognized security expert. Her current expertise is in IT Security (Application, OS, Network), IT GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance), IT Management, and IT Communications. Over the years, Terumi has served in several IT executive roles in financial, software, and IT services companies servicing private industry, government, and military organizations; as well as consulting and training on security initiatives for a variety of global Fortune 500 companies.

In the past decade, Terumi was instrumental in bringing leading security technologies to Japan such as SourceFire and Skybox. She also served as the Head of Consulting for Symantec Japan where she developed advisory services into a key business unit both in Japan and Hong Kong. Terumi also served as the Head of Professional Services for RSA Japan where she quickly rolled out key technology and services for PCI compliance.

Before that, Terumi joined the Mutual Defense Assistance Office (MDAO) in the US Embassy Japan as the Director of Navy Cooperative Programs. Using her fluency in English and Japanese, Terumi facilitated US-Japan Arms Cooperation by coordinating and negotiating major defense technology programs between US and Japan. Here, she gained appreciation for working across cultures and importance of cross-cultural communication.

In 1989, Terumi graduated from Wharton Business School with dual degrees in MBA and MA in International Management and started her IT career as a senior system analyst at Goldman Sachs Japan. She then advanced to IT management at several financial companies including Director of Systems at Swiss Bank Corporation.

Treb Gatte

Treb

Treb is currently the Managing Partner for Tumble Road LLC, a Management Consultancy. He is a seasoned technology professional with over 24 years of technology, process design, and training experience as well as being a Microsoft Power BI Red Carpet Partner. Treb helps companies and individuals realize business intelligence success. He’s a Microsoft MVP who’s written books on Project and SharePoint. Treb previously worked as the Business Intelligence Program Manager on the Microsoft Project engineering team. He is currently assisting Microsoft with rolling out Microsoft Power BI.

As a teacher, Treb sees people struggle to get the value from the software they’ve purchased and he enjoys helping them. As an entrepreneur, Treb can help you develop a better, more effective approach to work. He is a technical expert, having been a developer, program manager, and development manager. He’s passionate about what he does and how it is done. Implementing new processes and new technologies has an impact on the daily lives of his clients.

Adam Shostack

Adam

Adam is an entrepreneur, technologist, author, game designer, and founder of Confidenza Security. He’s a member of the BlackHat Review Board, and helped found the CVE and many other things. He’s currently building his 5th startup, focused on improving security effectiveness, and mentors startups as a Mach37 Star Mentor.

While at Microsoft, he drove the Autorun fix into Windows Update, was the lead designer of the SDL Threat Modeling Tool v3 and created the “Elevation of Privilege” game. Adam is the author of “Threat Modeling: Designing for Security,” and the co-author of “The New School of Information Security.”

Adam is also involved with MACH37. MACH37 is the premier accelerator for information security entrepreneurs and startups. MACH37 goes beyond the traditional model of typical business accelerators by bringing our innovators focused mentorship and support from our extensive network of visionaries, practitioners, and successful entrepreneurs in security.

The MACH37 Spring and Fall sessions are designed to propel graduating companies into the marketplace, equipped with the skills to grow and compete for funding and market share. MACH37™ was launched in 2013 by the Center for Innovative Technology, in Herndon, Virginia.

 

Zubair Alexander

Zubair
Zubair Alexander is a Microsoft SharePoint MVP, a Microsoft Certified Trainer, and CEO of SeattlePro Enterprises, LLC, an IT training and consulting company in Seattle, WA. He holds more than 25 industry certifications including MCT, MCSE, MCSA, MCDST, MCITP, MCTS, MCP+I, MCSA 2000/2003: Security, MCSE 2000/2003: Security, CNA, A+, Network+, Security+, CTT+ and CIW. His experience covers a wide range of spectrum: trainer, consultant, systems administrator, security architect, network engineer, Web designer, author, technical editor, college instructor and public speaker.

Zubair teaches various Microsoft products and has written extensively on Microsoft technologies the past 20 years. His specialties include Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365, Enterprise Security, Active Directory, Hyper-V, Windows operating systems, Exchange, and IIS. His consulting engagements range from troubleshooting and designing networks for small to medium-sized companies to engineering network services for large enterprises with over 30,000 users. He excels in troubleshooting hardware and software problems and his real-world experience is one of his greatest strengths.

As a Microsoft-endorsed trainer, he has trained Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS) and Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) technicians for several years. In addition to writing Professor Windows columns for Microsoft TechNet, he has been involved in writing certification exam questions for Microsoft. Some of his other activities at Microsoft for the past couple of decades include working as a Subject Matter Expert on various projects, teaching train-the-trainer courses, consulting for MCS, writing for TechNet Magazine, speaking at seminars and Webinars, working with ISA Server group, writing white papers and case studies, doing technical reviews of Microsoft Learning courses, working with Microsoft Virtual Academy, etc.

Mike Culver

Mike
Mike is a 30 year veteran of the IT industry and President of Real World Information Systems. The last 20 years Mike has been working with Microsoft SQL Server as a DBA, Architect, Developer, Trainer and Mentor. Mike specializes in performance tuning and has authored two courses on performance tuning SQL Server including one that was delivered to Microsoft first tier support engineers. He has authored white papers on hosting databases in the cloud, high availability, and disaster recovery in addition to training Microsoft professionals all over the world.

In addition to his SQL Server skills, Mike is adept with .NET, Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). Mike’s most recent projects have involved large data migrations from on-premise databases to the Microsoft Azure cloud.

Eylem Uysal

Ms. Uysal is a founder and owner of Arges. Arges provides IT consulting, training, design, and management services. Ms. Uysal is a leading software developer, architect, technical manager, and instructor/presenter, specializing in software product development and middle-tier integration. Ms. Uysal provides services for enterprise systems including architecture, design, integration, and training.

Ms. Uysal provides expert Windows Azure architectural and development services. Ms. Uysal presented the first Microsoft Azure training to Microsoft Partners worldwide in 2014.

Working with multiple clients Ms. Uysal has been providing the following Azure activities;

  • Architectural design and implementation for various Azure Services including Machine Learning, Big Data integration using Azure Insight, BizTalk, Cache Management, and API Services.
  • Implementation guidance to move on premises implementations to Azure using IaaS
  • Architecting an existing on premises application to cloud based application using Azure SQL Server for high availability and high scalability.
  • Public and custom dedicated Azure classes to more than 100 individuals since the beginning of 2015.
